"The Ax AOL
campaign can do the most good if we target all fronts. For
example, cancel your AOL account (you know you've wanted to
do this for awhile now!!!) and subscribe to another ISP.
Tell your friends and friends of friends to do the same
thing.
Here's another
idea. Do you own AOL stock? Maybe you think you don't, but
do you have a mutual fund or two in your IRA or 401K??
Check and see if any of these funds you own include AOL in
their holdings. You can call, write or email and ask for
the information. Here's the email I sent to a Mutual
Fund family that I own funds in. First I logged on to their
web site using my account number and password.
'Dear (name of fund family
such as Janus, Fidelity, Vanguard, etc.)
I am
participating in a campaign to "AX AOL". (include web site
if you want) Can you please check for me and let me know if
any of the mutual funds currently held in my IRA (insert
account number) are holding AOL stock at this time?? Can
someone please email, write or call me with this
information? If a fund is currently holding AOL stock , I
plan to execute a trade out of that fund and into another
fund in the (name of fund family - Janus, etc) family that
does not currently have an AOL stock holding.
Thank you."
This is just a
sample. Be creative! Letters or emails should not all look
the same. I did not explain the AX AOL campaign since that
is of little interest to the clerk who gets the email and
has to do the research. However, once they get a "critical
mass" of emails they'll start to notice and they can look up
the web site. Also, I did not threaten to take all my money
out of that family of funds, just trade any fund that holds
AOL for one that doesn't. If you don't know what to trade
into, there are always cash reserve funds that currently pay
a nice interest rate and where you can put your money
safely.
